Hometown: Batavia, NY
College and Graduate School: B.A. in Psychology from Roberts Wesleyan College; M.A. in Higher Education/Student Affairs from Geneva College
Tell us about your family: I married my husband, Andy, in 2007. In addition to being my favorite person to spend time with and someone who daily reflects Christ, he is a social worker and currently works at the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center. We have two daughters, Parker Penny and Ada Lynn, who are a joy and bring so much adventure to our lives. We enjoy camping, going on walks, and attending anything at Messiah together as a family.
Favorite activities: Exploring towns and cities, hiking and backpacking with family or friends, baking, crafting, supporting small businesses.
Favorite color: Yellow
Why did you come to Messiah? I aspired to be a Director of Residence Life for pretty much my entire seven years as a Residence Director (at Geneva and Westmont Colleges). While in graduate school, I had the opportunity to take a Residence Life course co-taught by the Vice Provost and a former Director of Residence Life at Messiah. I fell in love with Messiah’s intentionality in their approach to educating students in all facets of their college experience and knew I wanted to work here one day if the opportunity ever presented itself. Eight years later, it happened and I am so grateful to be here! Messiah students and staff are a wonderful blend of fun, thoughtful, hospitable, and engaging. It is a true joy to work alongside students and staff in my everyday job.
What are some unique life experiences you have had?
My top three are:
1. I had the opportunity in 2014 to go backpacking in Patagonia (Chile & Argentina) with my husband. It was so beautiful and the adventure of a lifetime.
2. I participated in a semester abroad (Latin American Studies Program) while in college and had the opportunity to live with a host family in Nicaragua in a very remote location (accessed by canoe and horseback). They had no electricity or running water and I had the opportunity to milk a cow by hand and catch a chicken for dinner.
3. When my husband and I moved to California after I completed graduate school, we took 33 days to move and backpacked across the country. It was so much fun and unforgettable.
Favorite Bible verse: "Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” Psalm 68:19
What are some impactful books you’ve read? A Grace Disguised by Jerry Sittser and Abba’s Child by Brennan Manning
What are some other fun facts about you? I grew up a pastor’s kid. I have a very large extended family. I have more than 40 first cousins. I am a die-hard Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. I really enjoy farm-to-table restaurants. I play the cello, and especially enjoy playing in church. Having deep conversations with others is very life-giving.
