Graduate Assistant, Resident Director [Male], (Ohio Christian University)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Resident Director Graduate Assistant role is a live-in position, which assists the Office of Student Life in providing direction to students, managing the upkeep of an assigned residence hall including supervision of student custodians and upholding University standards. 10 hours per week will be spent in the Student Development Office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

According to Ohio Christian University employment policy, all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the OCU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in undergraduate student involvement/leadership role.
  • Required enrollment and a 3.0 grade or better per course in an OCU graduate program is expected to maintain this position.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to be flexible when issues arise.
  • Ability to connect with college-aged students.
  • Ability to think critically and respond to situations in a calm manner.
  • Ability to think innovatively, bringing new and fresh ideas to the team.

Student Life Expectations

  • Attend summer staff training and planning beginning July.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the Resident Assistant (RA) Training Program.
  • Participate in selection, training, and evaluation of RA staff.
  • Be point of contact for RA and help hold accountable to their job description through ongoing feedback.
  • Assist in the opening/closing of residence halls.
  • Hire and supervise student hall custodians for assigned residence hall.
  • Respond promptly to texts, e-mail, and voicemails from other staff, faculty, and students.
  • Attend weekly Residence Life and/or meeting.
  • Participate in the weekend on-call rotation throughout each semester by managing the duty phone, managing a staff of students from various residence halls, and participating in weekend student activities.
  • Report student conduct issues to the campus Conduct Committee through online reporting system within 24 hours (immediately for more serious issues).
  • Lovingly confront students who are living unhealthy lifestyles or violating community standards.
  • Attend professional development conferences with the student development team as able and when afforded opportunity.
  • Grow the vision of Student Life through ongoing research and collaboration with other residence halls, departments, and other institutions of higher learning.
  • Report facility maintenance and cleanliness issues to Department of Operations.
