Job Description    The Assistant Coach/ GA will report directly to the Head Coach/Athletic Director and will assist in overseeing all aspects of operating a successful intercollegiate athletic program.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Recruiting and Evaluation of Prospective Student-Athletes:

-Under the Leadership of the Head Coach

-Assist the Head Coach in identifying prospective student-athletes: that are an Ohio Christian University fit, capable of succeeding academically, spiritually, and athletically at OCU.

-Assist the Head Coach on updating the OCU Athletics Recruiting and Compliance Report on a weekly basis.

-Assist the Head Coach in maintaining a database of prospects including updated records of contacts.

-Assist the Head Coach in successfully recruiting these identified student-athletes.

 

Team and Game Preparation—Teach Student-Athlete Skill:

-Under the Leadership of the Head Coach

-Assist the Head Coach in teaching all basic and advanced skills required in the sport during individual skill sessions, team practices, and strength/conditioning sessions.

-Assist the Head Coach in developing and implementing a sound and safe practice plan that will successfully prepare our student-athletes with the fundamentals of the sport.

-Assist the Head Coach in developing a comprehensive and strategic game plan for each scheduled contest throughout the season. This includes, but is not limited to; the evaluation of upcoming opponents by breaking down game tapes, preparing a scouting report for our student-athletes and making adjustments to the game plan during contests.

Administrative Responsibilities:

-Under the Leadership of the Head Coach

-Assist in organizing and coordinating of a wide variety of administrative tasks which include, but not limited to; team travel, contest scheduling, budget preparation and administration, facility usage, public relations, marketing, fundraising, community service and other daily operations for the program.

 

NAIA/NCCAA Rules Compliance:

-Be responsible for knowledge of, and adherence to, NAIA/NCCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and general operation of the intercollegiate athletic program.

Perform all other duties as assigned by the Head Coach/Athletic Director.

 

Required Qualifications           According to Ohio Christian University employment policy, all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the OCU Community Lifestyle Statement. Education, Training and Experience:

-Bachelor’s degree required

-2-4 years of playing/coaching at the college level

Skill and Ability to:

-Strong public speaking skills that connect with 18-22 year olds

-Strong administrative and organizational skills

-Strong communication skills both verbal and written

-Ability to network with other coaches to continue growth professionally

-Aid in successfully recruiting a full roster each season (mission fit student athletes)
