Group Exercise at the Fitness Center

The Falcon Fitness Center hires certified and experienced instructors for each of our classes. Our goal is to provide a wide range of class styles and times throughout the week. The schedule changes each semester given the availability of the room and our instructors. Click through the links below to learn more or email wellness@messiah.edu 

 

The Fitness Center Team is working hard to develop our fall 2020 schedule. Classes will start on August 31st . We will have a mix of in person outdoor, in person indoor, and live virtual classes. All classes will be FREE! Stay tuned for more information. We are excited for a great semester together 

Schedule

The Falcon Fitness Center provides students and employees with the opportunity to purchase unlimited group exercise memberships through ImLeagues. The membership will allow them to book into any of our classes offered throughout the week. To create an account simply go to www.imleagues.com or download the app from the App Store or Google Play store. This is the same platform for rec sports and fitness center reservations. Make sure you click on the fitness tab and spend a few minutes browsing our classes and descriptions. Signing up for a class is identical to signing up for a reservation at the fitness center. Follow these directions. 

  • Spin -Come join us for an indoor cycle ride! Spin is a great way to challenge your fitness and burn calories. Beginners and experts are welcome as you control your own resistance. We will tackle mountains, rolling hills, sprints, and other fun drills to keep your body and mind engaged! This class will take place inside. A social distance of 7+ feet will be maintained and masks will be required. 
  • Pilates - Pilates provides an opportunity to exercise the entire body and renew the mind. Throughout the class, participants will engage in a variety of dynamic exercises to train core control, flexibility, muscular endurance, and balance within an uplifting environment. Pilates is a meaningful way to recharge physically and mentally before heading into the remainder of the afternoon. This class will take place outside. A social distance of 10+ will be gauranteed and masks will be optional for all participants. 
  • Zumba - Come ready for a great work out! Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music. The choreography incorporates hip hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, squats, lunges, and more!  Experienced members and first timers are welcome! A social distance of 10+ will be gauranteed and masks will be optional for all participants. 
  • HIIT– HIIT is great for anyone looking to add something new to their work out! This class will challenge your entire body with exercises targeting the core, upper body, lower body, and your cardiovascular system. Come learn new exercises using the slam balls, core bags, resistance bands, stability balls, and more! No experience necessary! This class is outdoors on the basketball courts behind Naugle by the pit parking lot. Follow the Falcon Fitness Center Instagram for weather updates and changes. Social distance of 10+ feet will be gauranteed and masks will be optional for all participants. 
  • Mindful Movement - Mindful Movements will combine elements of Tai Chi, Qigong and Xingyi to help participants improve flexibility, balance, strength/endurance and calmness of the mind.  The activities and forms used during this introductory class will emphasize slow and low impact movements with focused breathing to enhance the mind-body connection.  Wear comfortable clothes that will allow for mobility. A social distance of 7+ feet will be maintained through the class. Masks will be required. 
  • Core - The core class encompasses a lot more than your “six pack abs.” This class will challenge all aspects of your core using body-weight-only exercises, stability balls, medicine balls, core bags, and other unique equipment. This is not a beginner class.  If you struggle to hold a plank longer than 30 seconds you may not be ready for this class. A social distance of 7+ feet will be maintained throughout the class. Masks will be required. 
  • Jump Around -  is a high intensity fitness class revolving around the act of jumping rope. This class will be in the format of a circuit and will include bodyweight and core exercises along with various forms of jump rope. Beginners and experts are welcome! Jump ropes will be provided; however, if you have your own, please bring it. This class is OUTDOORS on the basketball courts behind Naugle above the pit parking lot. Follow the Falcon Fitness Center Instagram for weather updates and changes. A social distance of 10+ feet will be gauranteed and masks will be optional for all participants.  
  • LIIT  -is Low-Intensity Interval Training. In this class we will focus on workouts that are easier on the joints, but still effective at burning fat, as well as building muscle. We will learn body-weight exercises and equipment to use to get the most out of a workout. All levels are welcome!; low intensity doesn't mean easy! This class will take place inside. A social distance of 7+ feet will be maintained and masks will be required. 
  • Thrive  is a class focused on mind, body, and soul exercises. In this class, we will focus on physical, body-weight and minimal equipment exercises; mindfulness techniques; and various spiritual disciplines. This class is for any one--new or old--to the gym and encourages all levels of fitness to come on out to learn about their own mind, body, and soul! A social distance of 7+ feet will be maintained throughout the class. Masks will be required. 
  • Virtual Core  - The core class encompasses a lot more than your “six pack abs.” This class will challenge all aspects of your core using body-weight-only exercises, stability balls, medicine balls, core bags, and other unique equipment. This class is VIRTUAL. A Zoom Link will be posted on the Falcon Fitness Center webpage.
  • Virtual HIIT  - High Intensity Interval training is great for anyone looking to add something new to their work out! This class will challenge your entire body with body-weight only exercises targeting the core, upper body, lower body, and your cardiovascular system. This class is VIRTUAL.
