Academic Summer Camps
These are the resource pages for directors and counselors of academic camps (sometimes called workshops or institutes). If you have any questions about the academic camps, you may contact the director of the academic camp or the Payroll Office.
If you need information for an athletic camp or sports camp, please contact the director of the athletic camp or the athletic office. You may visit the main athletic website for further assistance.
Directors will organize the camp, hire counselors, assist the Payroll Office with managing hiring paperwork. If you are a camp director, please click on the camp director's link in the menu to learn more about your responsibilities in assisting the Payroll Office.
Counselors will help teach, train and monitor the campers. Counselors must complete all necessary hiring paperwork and background clearances, and special training before they begin their first day of work. If you are a camp counselor, please click on the camp counselor's link in the menu to learn about the employment requirements.
For directors and counselors who have been around for a while, here are some changes to the way we used to do things.
- All camp employees, both students and non-students alike, will now be processed through the Payroll Office. It is no longer necessary to use the job hiring website (jobs.messiah.edu). However, you may continue to use the site to post your job openings and accept applications. When you have chosen a particular applicant to hire, please let the Payroll Office know who and we will proceed from there.
- Given that all Counselors, both student and non-student alike, will be hired and processed by the Payroll Office, there will no longer be different Summer Employment Agreement forms (i.e. the payment request forms). The agreement/payment form that you find here, on the Payroll Office camp web site, will be used to process payment for all of your Camp Counselors.
A pay scale has been established by the Office of Human Resources and Compliance. Please contact the Payroll Office for details to ensure that you are paying your Counselors appropriately.
Mandatory Reporter Training from University of Pittsburgh has expired and is no longer valid. If any employee, Director or Counselor, did not complete the new Abuse Prevention Systems training by MinistrySafe last summer, you will need to do it this year. The U.Pitt version can no longer be accepted. The Payroll Office can let you know if you need the new training.
