About us

Workshop Description

Readers will delve into readings by C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and others as a way to strengthen their love of reading, explore literary concepts and immerse themselves into the world of high fantasy and science fiction.

  • The Young Readers Workshop is designed to foster a community of book lovers through enriching discussion-based seminars, led by Messiah faculty.
  • Readers will discuss the writings of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and other writers as a way to explore the world of speculative fiction. Students will also look closely into the theological and philosophical views of the authors as a way to understand their writing in a broader context.
  • Our Readers will team up with Resident Assistants to create their own literary podcasts.
  • Students will explore world building as they create their own fantastical worlds, designing everything from setting, societal and scientific rules, as well as the types of characters in their created worlds.
