Abigail Baia

Abigail is the Special Projects Coordinator for the School of Humanities at Messiah College. She plans and runs the Readers Workshop, Young Writers Workshop, and Young Filmmakers Workshop. She has earned her MFA in Creative Writing with a focus in young adult literature and has a graduate certificate in online writing instruction.  She has also worked as a graphic designer for 25 years, where she worked on projects for the US Department of Labor, the Executive Office, the Holocaust Memorial, and the National Cancer Institutes.

Abigail’s first novel, The Art of Drowning, will be published in November of 2020. She also has a short story featured in Transcendence: An Anthology of Human Thought entitled “The Flight,” and is currently working on a number of short stories to be showcased in an upcoming anthology entitled The Cohort. In her writing she aims to reveal a connection between pain and hope; giving a voice to teens who feel unheard.

Katy shares a love of young adult literature and listens to podcasts whenever she is in the car. She has fond memories of attending and being on support staff at East Coast young writers conferences, which inspired her to become an English teacher. Her passion is bridging the gap between high school and college by helping students find their passion—like a writing conference did for her.

A recent graduate of Salisbury University’s Masters of English Literature program; she has taught First Year Composition for four semesters and is happy to be returning to the central Pennsylvania area. A graduate of Messiah College herself, she was actively involved in the English and Education departments on campus, and she knows the best places to hammock, too. For the past couple of summers, Katy has designed her own summer camps for a local art museum and supported educational programming at a maritime museum.
