Timely Warnings/Emergency Notifications
Sept. 15, 2014
Late in the evening of Sunday, Sept. 14, the College's Office of Safety was made aware of an anonymous post on a social media site that made a vague but threatening reference to Boyer Hall. The threat was also reported to Upper Allen Police Department, and the College is working in conjunction with local authorities in response. Although the post did not reference a specific date or type of threat, the College is taking very seriously its responsibility to ensure campus safety. In response, the College closed Boyer Hall last night to all employees and students. The police have swept the building with canine units and the building was cleared. As an added precaution and safety measure, the College has decided to keep Boyer Hall closed through 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning (Sept. 15). When the building reopens, all entrance and exit will be restricted to the main entrance; all other doors to the building will remain locked until further notice. Additionally, all employees, s tudents and visitors entering Boyer Hall should be prepared to be subject to search by College safety personnel.
It's important to understand that all of these responses are purely precautionary. While we realize these measures pose some disruption and inconvenience, the College is doing what it believes is most responsible to ensure the safety and peace of mind of its campus community. If you have questions or information to report regarding this incident, please contact the Department of Safety at ext. 6055. Of course, all members of the campus community may also contact 911 at any time if they have information related to an immediate campus or personal threat.
Additional updates and information will be provided as available during the day.
