Evidence of Student Learning

Assessment Plans

Assessment plans gather evidence of student learning in relation to institution and program specific outcomes. At Messiah, faculty collaboratively develop an assessment plan each degree program. This assessment plan:

  1. States the major or program's learning outcomes;

  2. Demonstrates how the program outcomes align with Messiah's institutional outcomes;

  3. States the measures by which we assess student learning on the program (and institutional) outcomes. This could be a test, paper, project, performance, etc.;

  4. States what level of learning we expect students to achieve (target);

  5. Provides the timeline for when data will be gathered and analyzed for the student learning.

Use of Student Learning Evidence

Each May, departments gather to discuss evidence of student learning and develop action plans to improve learning during the next academic year. School deans review the assessment results and action plans over the summer, and work with the department throughout the following academic year to ensure they complete action plans.
