Student Ministries at Messiah
Student Ministries is a student-led organization that provides prayer, bible study, worship, and fellowship opportunities for every student to grow in faith as they engage with God within community. Through intentional mentoring and discipleship, Student Ministries leaders are equipped to engage others in on-going spiritual growth while gaining leadership experience on campus.
Student Ministries always has something going on! Across our various ministry groups, there is something to do most days of the week.
Students can connect with us at engagement fairs, follow us on Instagram, and keep your eye on email to stay up to date on when and where each of our ministry groups are meeting.
We look forward to connecting with you and pursuing God together!
Student Ministries Groups
- Women’s Ministry and Men’s Ministry each offer weekly life groups and fellowship gatherings.
- Logos Bible Study uses the inductive method to study scripture during weekly gatherings.
- Roots Bible Study is a discipleship community offering regular Bible studies, games, fellowship gatherings and leadership development.
- Ponder provides a safe space for students to ask questions and engage with them to explore answers about their faith, in community.
- Prayer Ministry hosts Altar, a weekly prayer ministry that hosts weekly prayer and worship gatherings, as well as other outreach opportunities to pray together in a community.
- Chapel Team members collaborate with Campus Ministries staff to participate in planning weekly chapel services.
- Resident Chaplains are student leaders who invest in the spiritual formation of other students where they live, especially in first-year halls.
Student Ministries also hosts special events such as:
- Incense, a night of prayer and worship designed for students to experience diverse expressions of worship (music, scripture reading, prayer, dance, visual art, sign language, advocacy and more).
- Just Jesus, a time for students to encounter Jesus through reflecting on the gospel, listening to the testimonies of fellow students and worshipping together.

Each year, 30+ students are selected to serve as Student Ministries leaders. These student leaders receive leadership training and mentoring, attend retreats designed for their own spiritual growth, and lead their peers in a variety of discipleship ministries. They bring a wide range of interests, skills, and experiences--leading Bible studies, facilitating small groups, planning events, praying for others, leading worship, offering hospitality, sparking spiritual conversation, managing finances, and more--and use them to serve the student body.
In accordance with the Office of Student Engagement, Messiah Student Ministries views student leadership as an essential opportunity to cultivate each student's character, calling, and competency as growing disciples and leaders in and for the church and world. The Student Ministries Council is a group of student leaders who oversee each ministry team with Student Ministries ensuring a unified mission and vision, promoting collaboration, and supporting campus-wide events and initiatives. This team-based approach to ministry leadership celebrates the strengths each student leader offers in their various roles and cultivates a genuine Christian community among those hoping to create the same for the entire campus.
At the beginning of each spring semester, Student Ministries begins recruiting and hiring the next year's student leaders to serve across all its ministry groups. To learn more about leadership in Student Ministries, contact us at studentministries@messiah.edu.
