Campus climate report
Messiah University conducted a Campus Climate Survey in March 2017 and the results were formally presented and disseminated across campus in the Spring of 2018.
The Campus Climate Action Team (CCAT) was charged with focusing on five priorities that the President’s Cabinet identified based on survey findings. The five priorities are:
- Diverse populations experience less than inclusive behaviors
- We need to figure out the barriers to reporting discrimination/harassment
- Faculty, employees of lower level/rank, and commuter students feel less valued and connected to the community
- We have some employees with whom we need to better communicate inclusive priorities
- We have students who experience interpersonal violence
In the Spring of 2019, the CCAT partnered with colleagues from the Graduate Program in Higher Education at The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) to retrieve additional insight into each of these priorities. Led by Dr. David Guthrie, a small team of graduate students from Penn State conducted focus groups and an analogous online survey during March and April of 2019 to gather information on the intersection of the identified priorities with the experiences and perspectives of students, faculty, and staff at Messiah. The resulting report, “Parsing the Priorities: A Qualitative Exploration of Campus Climate at Messiah,” is available for review:
"Parsing the Priorities: A Qualitative Exploration of Campus Climate at Messiah College” by Penn State University
The President’s Cabinet will use the report to inform campus-wide programming as well as specific initiatives tied directly to the University’s Strategic Plans as we seek to work together to enhance our Campus Climate.
