Student opportunities - Department of Theatre and Dance
Student Opportunities
Messiah University’s Department of Theatre and Dance provides students with a wide range of opportunities to grow as artists, collaborators and leaders both on and off the stage. From student-led productions and interdisciplinary performances to experimental festivals and senior mentorship experiences, students are encouraged to explore their creativity, develop practical skills and engage with the campus arts community in meaningful ways. Whether performing, directing, choreographing or collaborating across disciplines, these opportunities help students gain hands-on experience while building lasting connections within the arts at Messiah.
APO
APO stands for Alpha Psi Omega which is the collegiate National Theatre Honor Society. This is a student-led Theatre group sponsored by a faculty member which provides additional opportunities for students to perform and direct plays in the Poorman Blackbox Theater.
Arts Invasion Fringe Festival!
This Fringe Festival gives students the opportunity for performances in outdoor venues all across campus and to collaborate across departments with improvisation and experimentation. Our goal is to take the Arts to our community in a way that draws them in.
Collaboration
Students are given the opportunities to collaborate across the different departments in The Arts at Messiah such as Messiah University Percussion Ensemble with the Messiah University Dance Ensemble.
Senior Series
1st and 2nd-year students will have the opportunity to work with senior students as they write, direct, and perform a work for their senior project.
