In-Person Appointments

  • Walk-In Single-Session Therapy Appointments

The Counseling Center offers daily walk-in appointments that can be scheduled on-line. These appointments are not intake assessment appointments, nor are they for those experiencing a mental health emergency. Here are some good examples of needs that can be met with single-session walk-in therapy:

    1. Need to process some bad news, recent break-up, or roommate conflict
    2. Tips for Stress Management
    3. Strategies for coping with panic symptoms
    4. Guidance for navigating adjustment to college
    5. If there is a wait-list for regular counseling, schedule one to create a plan until an intake appointment becomes available

Students can request these appointments by calling (717) 796-5357 at 8 am each morning or by scheduling on-line through the Health and Counseling Portal, Click on “Counseling Services” for instructions. They will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. If students schedule more than two walk-in appointments per semester, they will be invited to schedule an intake appointment.

  • Ongoing Counseling Sessions

A student who wants ongoing counseling must first schedule an intake appointment. This assessment appointment will determine the best way to meet the student’s need. To request an intake, go to the Counseling and Health Portal, click on “Counseling Services,” fill out all three forms, and our staff will be in contact within a few days to invite you to schedule an appointment.

  • Crisis Walk-In Emergency Services

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, defined as:

    1. Suicidal thoughts or actions
    2. Harming yourself or harming others
    3. Symptoms of psychosis (hearing or seeing things others do not, delusional thinking)
    4. Symptoms of a manic episode (agitated behavior, unnatural energy, lack of sleep for 3 days)

Please come to the Counseling Center during office hours or call (717) 796-5357, no appointment is needed. During evening or weekend hours contact 988, your residence life staff or public safety (717) 691-6005 to receive emergency care.
