Master of Education – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

Messiah University’s Master of Education with a degree track in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) will provide educators with the specialized knowledge and skill to help English learners (ELs) acquire language and learn academic content in their classrooms.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) overview

Graduate students in the TESOL track will develop a foundational understanding of the English language, discovering linguistic items that are relevant and teachable in their content areas. They will apply this learning as they work within their own teaching contexts to create lesson plans which meet the needs of all learners, and develop skills for furthering the language development of ELs during instruction in mainstream classes.

The TESOL track is designed for those who are building on their expertise so that they can meet the needs of the increasing numbers of English learners in their classrooms. Others may not have a bachelor’s degree in education or teacher certification, but may apply this learning in other areas, such as in higher education or business.
