PDE Certification - Special Education Certification PK-12

The Special Education Certification is designed to provide educators with the skills and competencies to teach learners with disabilities who are in need of special education. Students who are able to secure a full-time or long-term substitute teaching position while pursuing their teaching certification may apply for the Pennsylvania intern certification program.

Special Education Certification PK-12 overview

The Special Education Certification option is designed for those with a bachelor’s degree in education or any other field who are looking to earn their initial or subsequent PA teaching certification in Special Education PK-12.

Pennsylvania intern certification program

Students at Messiah University may also apply for the Pennsylvania intern certification program. This professional certificate entitles you to fill a full-time or long-term substitute teaching position in your content area while pursuing teaching certification. 

To be eligible for the intern program, students must:

  • Enroll in a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved intern program.
  • Secure a full-time or long-term substitute position in your content area(s).
  • Meet all testing requirements.
