
Special Education with Teaching Certification in PK-12

The Special Education Certification is designed to provide educators with the skills and competencies to teach learners with disabilities who are in need of special education. Students who are able to secure a full-time or long-term substitute teaching position while pursuing their teaching certification may apply for the Pennsylvania intern certification program.
The Special Education Certification option is designed for those with a bachelor’s degree in education or any other field who are looking to earn their initial or subsequent PA teaching certification in Special Education PK-12.
Students at Messiah University may also apply for the Pennsylvania intern certification program. This professional certificate entitles you to fill a full-time or long-term substitute teaching position in your content area while pursuing teaching certification.

It is the highest accrediting authority recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for degree-granting colleges and universities located in Pennsylvania, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and several other locations internationally. Messiah’s teaching certification programs are accredited by the PA Department of Education. Students who successfully complete this graduate-level coursework and field hours can apply to obtain the PDE certification in special education.
