Messiah University celebrates 10 years of sustainable printing through PrintReleaf partnership
Messiah University is celebrating 10 years of environmental stewardship through its partnership with PrintReleaf, a program that helps organizations offset their paper consumption through global reforestation projects.
Since joining the program in 2016, Messiah has helped reforest more than 4,100 standard trees, turning everyday campus printing into an opportunity to make a positive environmental impact. PrintReleaf measures reforestation in "standard trees," a unit of forest biomass equivalent to a tree measuring 40 feet tall and 7 inches in diameter at maturity.
Through PrintReleaf, the University's paper consumption is measured and converted into an equivalent number of trees, which are then replanted through certified reforestation projects around the world. Each year, Messiah students and employees have the opportunity to help select the location of the University's reforestation efforts through a campuswide survey.

Celebrating ten years with PrintReleaf is an opportunity to recognize Messiah’s ongoing commitment to sustainability,” said Dwayne Magee, director of Print and Mail Services at Messiah University. “Printing remains an important part of how we do our work and how we communicate. Through this partnership, we've been able to connect our work with a commitment to environmental stewardship.
The partnership is coordinated through Messiah Press, the University's in-house printing and mailing operation, which provides a wide range of services to campus departments and offices. By participating in PrintReleaf, Messiah Press incorporates sustainable practices into its daily operations while supporting the University's broader commitment to responsible resource use.
“Messiah Press has shown what a decade of commitment to sustainable print looks like on a university campus. Over ten years, they’ve reforested more than 4,100 standard trees, and it’s clear how much the program means to their students. We’re proud of this partnership and congratulate the whole team on this milestone,” said Jordan Darragh, CEO of PrintReleaf.
The 10-year milestone highlights how consistent efforts, even through routine activities such as printing, can make a meaningful difference over time. For Messiah, the partnership reflects the University's commitment to caring for creation and incorporating environmental stewardship into the everyday work of serving its campus community.
