Longtime Messiah leader and administrator formally installed during Oct. 15 ceremony

Mechanicsburg, Pa. (October 15, 2026) – Messiah University today formally inaugurated Jon C. Stuckey, Ph.D., as its ninth president, marking a new chapter in the University’s 117-year history and celebrating a leader whose career at Messiah spans more than 25 years.

The inauguration ceremony, held in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts on Messiah’s Mechanicsburg campus, brought together students, educators, staff, alumni, trustees, delegates from other colleges and universities, family members and invited guests to mark the occasion. The inauguration theme, “Living the Lord’s Calling: Act Justly. Love Mercy. Walk Humbly.” (Micah 6:8), reflects Stuckey’s commitment to faithful, Christ-centered leadership and Messiah’s enduring mission to educate students toward maturity of intellect, character and Christian faith.

Together we are building a way forward that reflects Messiah’s commitment to Christ-centered, intellectual formation . . . This moment is our opportunity not simply to respond to change, but to lead with the wisdom and courage that comes from being rooted in our faith,” Stuckey said in his inaugural address. “It is our responsibility to not merely maintain our current position, but to build on the strong foundation we have inherited and prepare Messiah University to serve faithfully and boldly for generations yet to come.

Stuckey was named Messiah’s next president by the University’s board of trustees in March 2026 and officially began his presidency May 1. He had served as interim president since July 1, 2025, following the retirement of Messiah’s eighth president, Kim S. Phipps, Ph.D.

The presidential inauguration was part of a weeklong celebration that included a Students’ Inaugural Ball on Oct. 10 and a special Inauguration Chapel on Oct. 13. The celebration concludes Thursday evening with an Inaugural Keynote Lecture by psychiatrist, author and speaker Curt Thompson, M.D., at 7 p.m. in Parmer Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

His 26-year career at the University has included leadership in fundraising and development, service on President’s Cabinet as vice president for advancement, and teaching as an assistant professor of sociology. Most recently, as interim president, he worked with trustees and the campus community to reaffirm Messiah’s identity and mission and helped shape the framework for the University’s next strategic plan. Stuckey earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in sociology from Case Western Reserve University and his B.A. in psychology from Malone University.
