George F. Pickens Associate Professor of Theology and Mission
One of the things I enjoy most about my work at Messiah is helping students discern their individual places in God’s broader plan. While some of this is done in class, most of these interactions take place outside the classroom. These opportunities to get to know students better are encouraging and inspiring for my own life and faith. Currently, my academic interests include the global expressions of the Believers Church tradition and the encounters between Muslim and Christians in West Africa. Away from academics my family (wife and two adult sons), my dogs (two Jack Russell Terriers), and my church (Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren) are the focus of my life. In my leisure time I also enjoy travel, hiking, backpacking, and exploring sites related to the Underground Railroad.
