Messiah College's Cultural Series to present "Behind the Broken Words"

GRANTHAM, Pa. (September 24, 2004) — The Messiah College Cultural Series will present “Behind the Broken Words” on Friday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham Campus. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased by calling the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036.

“Behind the Broken Words” is a two-man theatrical performance starring film and television veterans Anthony Zerbe and Roscoe Lee Browne. This production is a wonderful blend of poetry, drama and comedy. It consists of selections by various poets and playwrights including, William Butler Yeats, E. E. Cummings and Edna St. Vincent Millay. “Behind the Broken Words” speaks to a number of themes, including reflections on art and its power to transform and redeem lives.

Anthony Zerbe is recognized as one of the country’s most versatile actors, with extensive credits in film, television and theater. He has appeared in numerous movies, including most recently “The Matrix Reloaded” and “Matrix Revolutions,” as well as television shows such as “The Young Riders” and “Harry O,” and stage work including “The Little Foxes” and “Terra Nova.”

Emmy winner for a guest role on “The Cosby Show” and Tony nominee for his performance in “Trains,” Roscoe Lee Browne started his theater career in the New York Shakespeare Festival in Central Park . While with the Shakespeare Festival, Browne created and directed “A Hand is on the Gate,” a chronicle and celebration of the African- American experience in poetry and song. Browne has also had guest appearances in many television shows, including “Barney Miller,” “Law & Order” and “ER.”

The Cultural Series is a public five-part annual performance series sponsored by Messiah College . In addition to “Behind the Broken Words,” the remaining performances are: Canadian fiddling champion April Verch on Nov. 5, 2004 ; the Aspen Ensemble chamber musicians on Feb. 18, 2005 ; and the Tim Warfield jazz sextet on March 18, 2005 . Season subscriptions for all five Cultural Series events are available for $85. Tickets for individual performances cost $20 each; call (717) 691-6036.

Messiah College , a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 60 majors.
