Suzanne C. Miller Messiah College's Cultural Series to present
GRANTHAM, Pa. (October 15, 2004) The Messiah College Cultural Series will present April Verch on Friday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel, located on the college’s Grantham campus. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased by calling the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036. April Verch, three-time Canadian fiddling champion, is a breath of fresh air – combining fiddling, step dancing and vocals reflective of her deep roots in her native Ottawa Valley. Her broad repertoire features traditional and contemporary tunes ranging in source and inspiration from Quebec to the Appalachians , from Eastern Europe to Brazil – not to mention her own colorful compositions. “April’s strings burn with energy, whether she’s playing waltzes, airs, reels, or polkas. This is the hottest old time music of the year,” says En Route magazine. The Cultural Series is a public five-part annual performance series sponsored by Messiah College . In addition to April Verch, the remaining performances are: the Aspen Ensemble chamber musicians on Feb. 18, 2005 , and the Tim Warfield jazz sextet on March 18, 2005 . Tickets for individual performances cost $20 each; call (717) 691-6036.
