CONTACT: Beth L. Lorow Messiah College Department of Theatre to present "Nickel & Dimed"
GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 17, 2005) — The Department of Theatre will present the play, “Nickel & Dimed,” on April 7 to 9 and 14 to 16 in Miller Auditorium, Climenhaga Fine Arts Center, on Messiah College’s Grantham campus. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10 and may be purchased by calling the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036. In 1998, social critic Barbara Ehrenreich joined millions of Americans and worked for poverty level wages. The result was her 2001 “New York Times” bestseller, “Nickel and Dimed On (not) Getting by in America.” Tony-award winning playwright Joan Holden adapted Ehrenreich’s non-fiction book into a hilarious and harrowing account of Ehrenreich’s experience among our nation’s working poor. A forum discussion on living wage issues in Pennsylvania will follow the April 9 matinee. For more information please contact Valerie Rae Smith, director and chair of the Department of Theatre, at (717) 766-2511. “Nickel and Dimed” contains mature themes and is not appropriate for young audiences. Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia. # # # ARTICLE DATE: THURSDAY, MARCH 17, 2005
