CONTACT: Beth L. Lorow Norwegian singer Sondre Lerche to perform at Messiah College
GRANTHAM, Pa. (April 8, 2005) — Messiah College’s Student Activities Board will present a concert featuring Sondre Lerche with special guest Erin McKeown on April 30 at 8 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium, located in Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. Tickets cost $10 for general admission. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036. The 21-year-old singer/songwriter Sondre Lerche emerged from Bergen, Norway, three years ago with his debut album, “Faces Down,” which was named “Rolling Stone” magazine’s number six Top Debut Album of 2002. His influences range from Jeff Buckley to Elvis Costello to Steely Dan, making his music difficult to categorize. “Billboard” praises his “gorgeous folk-pop melodies, goose-bump generating vocals and astounding finger-work on the guitar.” His most recent release, “Two Way Monologue,” is an album of diversity and imagination, recorded with his core band, The Faces Down. Of the album, Lerche says, “I wanted to challenge myself more and to write songs that were less predictable in structure and more relaxed.” For more information about Lerche, visit www.sondrelerche.com. Opening act Erin McKeown crosses many genre lines with her 2003 release “Grand.” From fractured blues to New Orleans horns, cool French rock to lovely piano waltzes, multi-instrumentalist McKeown does it all in her own unique style. She is currently working on a new album, set for release this spring. Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia. # # # ARTICLE DATE: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2005 |
