Messiah College Symphony Orchestra to perform “The Musical Imagination”
GRANTHAM, Pa. (Jan. 27, 2006) -- The Messiah College Symphony Orchestra and chamber ensembles, under the direction of Timothy Dixon, will perform a special concert entitled "The Musical Imagination" on Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call (717) 766-2511, extension 3310.
The concert is being offered as part of the Messiah College Spring Humanities Symposium. The theme of the symposium is "The Power of Human Imagination." The concert will include a brief discussion about the role of imagination in musical interpretation and a performance of works including "St. Paul's Suite" by Holst, "Le Tombeau de Couperin" by Ravel, "Overture to Rosamunde" by Schubert and several chamber works.
About the Symphony Orchestra
The Messiah College Symphony Orchestra is directed by Timothy Dixon. Dixon serves as the assistant chair of the department of music and is director of orchestral studies. He is also an assistant professor of music at Messiah College, where he teaches courses in conducting and music history. In addition, Dixon serves as music director of the West Shore Symphony Orchestra. He previously served as the conductor of the University of Iowa Philharmonia Orchestra and the Preucil School String Orchestra, an ensemble that has been featured on public radio and television as well as in international festivals and tours.
