One-woman theatre production, "Frayed Edges," performed by Messiah College student

GRANTHAM, Pa. (April 13, 2007) — Abigail Getty, a senior theatre major, will perform “Frayed Edges,” an autobiographical play written about her family’s relationship with a prodigal foster son who died of AIDS in 2004. The performance will take place in three separate venues: at the Second Floor Gallery in Mechanicsburg, Pa. on May 3; in Poorman Recital Hall, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus, on May 4; and at Theatre Harrisburg on Hurlock Street in Harrisburg, Pa. on May 5. Each performance begins at 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Messiah College’s department of theatre sponsors numerous plays and performances throughout the academic year, from mainstage and black box productions to student-directed performances such as Getty’s. The department encourages participation from students of all majors and aims to present audiences with multiple views and perspectives while maintaining professional standards for production and performance. Plays staged in the past have included “Romeo and Juliet,” directed with a modern spin on the Shakespeare classic; “The Talisman,” a rendition of the life of Hans Christian Andersen; and “Into the Woods,” a popular Broadway amalgam of the fairytale characters from the Brothers Grimm. For more information on the department of theatre, visit their website at www.messiah.edu/departments/theatre.
