Department of Music First Semester Blueprints
Department of Music
When planning your first semester…
- Students should register for a minimum of 12 credits and no more than 16-17 credits (depending upon your major area of concentration within the department).
- All First-Year students are required to take First Year Seminar their first term. This is a required course, and each section focuses on a different topic for students to explore.
- Students who have earned AP, CLEP, or IB credit should refer to the information provided here: AP, CLEP, IB Credit.
- When registering for music theory courses, students should plan to begin with MUTH 101, unless the results from the music theory placement exam recommend beginning with another class.
- Music students audition for music ensembles (MUEN) upon arrival to campus. Each MUEN is offered for 0 to .5 credit. Students should wait to register for ensembles until the first week of classes.
- You can view the most up-to-date version of the schedule of classes by accessing The View.
The Music Department will host two pre-registration advising sessions via Zoom in the days leading up to new student registration. All students/families should plan to join in for one of these sessions. In addition to summarizing the registration process as detailed in this document, these meetings will focus on how incoming students can best prepare for fall courses in your areas of study. Sessions will be held on the following days:
