Boyer-Inspired Scholarship
In this book, noted higher education scholars examine some of the most pressing crises facing higher education today, pairing their thoughts with relevant selections from Boyer's seminal writings - some published here for the first time. The volume provides answers to questions perceived to be plaguing academe, while reintroducing readers to the optimistic and insightful wisdom of Ernest L. Boyer, Sr.
Ernest L. Boyer's landmark book, Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate, challenged the prevailing assumptions that dominated the academic landscape. His powerful and enduring argument for a new approach to faculty roles and rewards continues to play a significant role of the national conversation on scholarship in the academy. Boyer's call for a broadened view of scholarship continues to offer a relevant and necessary wisdom. This expanded, 25th anniversary edition offers, in addition to the original text, a critical introduction that explores the impact of Boyer's views, a call to action for applying Boyer's message to the changing nature of faculty work, and a discussion guide to help readers start a new conversation about how Scholarship Reconsidered applies today.
Many Mansions: Lessons of Faith, Family, and Public Service, Kathyrn Boyer's memoir was released May 29, 2014. The Boyers, who met as students at Messiah Bible School, traveled extensively and moved 20 times to fulfill Ernie's roles as Chancellor of the State University of New York, United States Commissioner of Education and President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. In her memoir, Kay details the challenges and joys that came with the balancing act of faith, family and public service. Kay, a certified midwife and past president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives Foundation (1984-89) writes in the memoir, "I was called to be an advocate on behalf of children preparing to enter the world. Ernie was called to provide those children with ways by which they could take their place as rightful leaders in society." Their partnership of faithful living and service inspires to this day.

Honoring Ernest L. Boyer, McDonald and Associates wrote Creating Campus Community: In Search of Ernest Boyer's Legacy to emphasize the work done during Dr. Boyer's lifetime. Boyer articulated six conditions or everyday practices which were the inspiration and foundation in creating this book. Following these conditions: an educationally purposeful place where learning is the focus; an open place where civility is affirmed; a just place where persons are honored and diversity is pursued; a disciplined place where group obligations guide behavior; a caring place where individuals are supported/service is encouraged; a celebrative place where traditions are shared, Boyer imagined educative structures where students will thrive. "Creating Campus Community" addresses the difficulty of building campus community while uplifting its values to students, faculty, administration, and staff.
