Degree programs - Department of Biological Sciences
Our academic programs
All majors in the Department of Biological Sciences combine rigorous coursework and hands-on experience in order to prepare you for graduate or medical school or immediate employment. An integral part of our curriculum is research experience either in our cutting-edge facilities or through off-campus internships. You'll also have the flexibility to pursue minors in related fields and study abroad. Since you'll study in the context of a Christian liberal arts university, you can simultaneously investigate the world around you and the Creator. The department emphasizes the integration of knowledge of the sciences with the teachings of the Christian faith throughout the curriculum.
Our curriculum provides both a broad foundational base as well as allowing for focus on specific areas, such as biomedical, cellular, organismal and ecosystems. For those who are interested in a more specialized course of study, we also offer several specialized and interdisciplinary majors, including environmental science, and molecular biology. Throughout our curriculum, learning in the classroom is complemented by active, hands-on experiences in the lab and in the field. You'll also have the opportunity to explore the world by participating in travel courses led by departmental faculty to global destinations including Central America, New Zealand, Patagonia and Zambia.
