Teresia Nzau (Terry)
I am an award-winning scholar, journalist, and public relations practitioner. In 2024, I received the Inez Kaiser Graduate Students of Color Award, which recognized my research and commitment to advancing diversity in academia. This award is especially meaningful, as it honors Inez Kaiser, the first Black woman to lead a PR company with national clients. In 2025, a book I contributed a chapter to was recognized as the Outstanding Book by the National Communication Association (NCA) Public Relations Division. I have also authored and co-authored several articles in well-known, peer-reviewed journals. You can learn more about my research through my Google Scholar profile. I pursued my PhD in Journalism at the Missouri School of Journalism and graduated in May 2025. Before academia, I worked as a journalist and public relations practitioner in Kenya, gaining over 10 years of professional experience in storytelling, strategic communication, and reputation management. My unique background allows me to bridge practice and scholarship, with a particular focus on global crisis communication and issues management, culture, and intersectionality.
