Office of Academic Accessibility
Messiah University values all people as image bearers of God. We are committed, not only to the legal requirements of the ADA, but to the moral and ethical responsibility to treat all members of the community with fairness. We do not discriminate against students with disabilities. Efforts are made to arrange effective accommodations for any qualified person. Standards remain high, but students are accommodated when possible to assure opportunities to demonstrate skills and knowledge.
Graduate students with disabilities requiring accommodation in classes, programs, or services can arrange for accommodations through the Office of Academic Accessibility. This office can be reached via email at: oaa@messiah.edu or via phone at (717) 796-5382. Private testing spaces are available on main campus and our Winding Hill location. Contact sgpsstudentservices@messiah.edu for further information.
There is not a specific form required for accommodations; rather, we ask that any documentation you provide includes the following key elements to ensure that we can move forward:
- Diagnosis (e.g., DSM-IV, IDEA, medical or other relevant documentation)
- Statement of the severity of the condition
- Explanation of how the condition impacts specific life activities
- List of recommended accommodations that will help the student benefit from the program or services.
Click this site for additional important documentation information.
Reasonable accommodations for students experiencing pregnancy or related conditions are available. Please communicate these requests directly with your faculty member or the coordinator of student services (sgpsstudentservices@messiah.edu). Should you have concerns regarding accessing these accommodations, please contact the Title IX Coordinator (hmcbride@messiah.edu). Lactation rooms are available at our Winding Hill location and on main campus. Contact sgpsstudentservices@messiah.edu to arrange.
