Graduate Student Professional Development Fund Request
Parameters of receiving graduate professional development funds:
- Current graduate student.
- Must have completed at least one graduate student course.
- Your academic program must not already offer professional development funding for students. Email your program director to inquire.
- The conference/experience must relate to your current program of study and correlated professional plans. The funds will allow students to attend professional experiences where they can put into practice the information they have learned and also have the opportunity to network with other graduate students and professionals within their field. The funds are not intended for experiences that relate to faith development or discerning career choices.
- Students must submit a professional development fund request proposal. The proposal should include:
- Importance/relevancy of the professional development experience to career goals
- Any responsibilities that you may have at the conference (speaker, research presentation, etc.)
- Description of how Messiah’s campus community would benefit from your attendance at the conference.
- All application materials should be submitted no later than three weeks before the scheduled conference/experience.
- Connect with Coordinator of Student Services, Lyndsay Grimm or Career Coach, Meg Jones Hoover, ahead of the professional experience to discuss ways to make the most of this opportunity.
- After the professional development opportunity, fund recipients will be sent questions to complete a reflection articulating the value of their conference attendance. A picture of the recipient may be displayed in the SGPS Monthly Newsletter in the highlights & happenings section.
- Funds are awarded on a case-by-case basis. If granted funds, students are to utilize their own funds upfront and are reimbursed (up to the amount granted) through submitting receipts and registration information. Note: students will not be reimbursed if they do not submit corresponding documents.
