Campus Ministries Graduate Assistant

Position Summary:  The Office of Campus Ministries creates opportunities for students to engage in meaningful Christian worship, discipleship, and spiritual formation. The Campus Ministries Graduate Assistant supports the office's goals by equipping and mentoring student leaders engaged in peer-to-peer discipleship ministries, overseeing the Resident Chaplain program in conjunction with Residence Life, and collaborating with the campus pastors in planning and hosting chapel services and small group opportunities.

Education Required: Bachelor's degree required; current enrollment in one of the degrees within the graduate program in Higher Education Leadership at Messiah University.

Experience Required: Campus ministry, church ministry, or parachurch ministry leadership experiences required

  • Desire and ability to be a team player within the Office of Campus Ministries and Division of Student Success and Engagement and to build positive relationships with others across campus
  • Christian faith commitment required 

Special Working Conditions: Required to work weekends and evenings as needed

Primary duties

 

Primary Duties

1.

Supervision/Mentoring

    • Meet weekly with supervisor (Director of Campus Ministries)

2.

General Campus Ministries Support

·       Attend weekly CMMU staff meetings

·       Attend weekly CMMU chapel planning meetings as needed

·       Provide office coverage on Fridays and as needed

·       Assist with chapel preparation and leadership as needed

·       Assist with Campus Ministries’ presence at Admissions events as needed

·       Lead a 4x4 chapel series each semester

3.

Student Ministries

    • Attend weekly Student Ministries Council meetings
    • Collaborate with Discipleship Pastor in the planning and leadership of Student Ministries training retreats and workshops
    • Schedule and assist Discipleship Pastor with Student Ministries leader interviews (spring semester)
    • Attend and observe select Student Ministries events

4.

Resident Chaplains

    • In collaboration with the Discipleship Pastor, guide the process of recruiting, hiring, and training resident chaplains
    • Lead weekly group advising meetings with resident chaplains
    • Meet biweekly with each resident chaplain 1:1
    • Maintain positive communication with Residence Life Educators regarding the resident chaplain program, keeping RLEs informed about RC activities and gathering feedback from RLEs about RC performance and the program as a whole
    • Oversee semesterly assessment of the resident chaplain program
