Student Success and Retention Graduate Assistant

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Student Success, the graduate assistant will perform individual interventions and larger programmatic duties to promote student success and retention at Messiah.

This is a two-year, 20 hour/week, appointment that does not exceed 800 hours/year. Commitment runs from August 1st – May 31st each of the two years.

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree required; current enrollment in one of the degrees within the graduate program in Higher Education at Messiah University.

Experience Required: Previous work in an education, camp, youth group, or helping service setting is preferred. Prior experience in high social contact jobs (customer service, retail, restaurant, etc.) is also preferred.

 Special Working Conditions: Occasional weekend and evening work as priorities demand.

 

 

Primary Duties

1.

Meet one-on-one with struggling students (primarily Juniors and Seniors) in Student Success Sessions and develop a student success plan and strategy to improve their success.

2.

Oversee the Soar Peer Mentoring Program by supervising the Soar Peer Mentors, assisting with training of mentors and Welcome Week activities, developing programming for mentees and mentors in conjunction with the Director of Student Success, and performing program assessment.

3.

Participate in student Welcome Week/ Orientation.

4.

Refer students to campus support services and follow up as needed.

Oversee and respond to Academic Updates.

Create and manage office marketing and social media.

7.

Review and respond to emails in the Office of Student Success Inbox.

8.

Develop and complete special projects as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Students.

 

 

Secondary Duties

1.

Attend meetings and committees at the discretion of the Director of Student Success.

2.

Present Office of Student Success services in classes and at events as needed.

3.

Other duties as assigned.
