Social Concerns Committee of SGA (SCC)
About SCC
The Social Concerns Committee of SGA is a group of student senators devoted to making campus life better for every student. We gather student feedback and concerns, meet with them, and work with the administration to create positive change on campus. Our primary goal is to bridge the gap between the administration and students and to enact policies that improve campus. Some of our projects include:
- Founding Messiah’s Food Pantry
- Free period products in restrooms
- Voter registration events
- Changes to visitation policy
Any student can meet with us about a Social Concern by emailing sgadiversity@messiah.edu, or by scanning the QR codes posted around campus. Members of SCC also serve as senators, making decisions that guide the present and future of the University. We encourage any student looking to improve campus to apply!
SCC’s functions
(abbreviated from Governance Manual section 3.2.3):
- Assess and recommend improvements for student concerns regarding residence life, athletics, counseling and health services, sustainability, other co-curricular programs and policies, or on-campus social dynamics.
- Evaluate the concerns of underrepresented people groups on campus as identified within engagement tables and student surveys.
- Serve as the primary Resolution-Writing organizational body of the Student Government Association and approve resolutions through a majority vote.
- Communicate with Faculty Departments to inform them of student concerns that fall within their department, as well as work with them in ways to address these concerns.
- Plan, organize, and promote events on campus for student concerns that cannot be addressed institutionally.
- Conduct an end-of-year report regarding the status of residence life, athletics, counseling and health services, sustainability, and on-campus social dynamics.
