As a biomedical engineer, you will learn how to apply mechanical and electrical engineering principles, along with biomedical lab techniques, to health solutions such as prosthesis, orthotics and medical equipment. Using engineering design and problem-solving skills, you will help advance health care diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
As a civil engineer, you will be prepared to design and construct infrastructure that meets critical societal needs. Civil engineers support new site development and often specialize in project types, such as design of highways, bridges, buildings and water treatment plants.
As an electrical engineer, you will be equipped to design and program the electrical components within many common products. You could also support power distribution or the use of alternative forms of power, such as solar and wind.
The general engineering curriculum meets the needs of students who have a very specific area of interest desiring a curriculum tailored to their objectives. The flexible curriculum also makes adjacent areas of study, such as a minor in another field or preparation for medical school, more accessible.
The environmental engineering minor is often of particular interest for students majoring in civil engineering who are seeking careers related to specialty areas such as water treatment or hazardous waste mitigation.
As a mechanical engineer, you will be prepared for a broad swath of careers that could include designing framework, managing motion and moving parts, or using energy efficiently to power a vehicle or heat a building.
As a robotics engineer, you will be equipped to apply principles of electrical and mechanical engineering to problems that involve automation. Such scenarios often rely on sensors to gather information, programs to interpret that data and make decisions, and actuators such as motors and pneumatic cylinders to bring about the desired action.
Messiah University engineering students serve as consultants to partnering organizations through our Collaboratory. You will further develop as an engineer by applying new skills to real-world projects [link] that meet the needs of others. Students earn academic credit for this work during a 5-semester course sequence in the sophomore through senior years. By graduation, you will have developed strong project management and technical application skills that prepare you for professional practice. Plus, you will see that future engineering work through a Christian lens, motivated by a desire to serve others. Students eager to get involved in the Collaboratory right away are encouraged to join a project team in their first year on an extra-curricular basis.
