Inaugural National Day on Writing at Messiah University

Organized by the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Committee and sponsored by the Office of General Education
Join us as Messiah University celebrates its inaugural National Day on Writing — a campus-wide event recognizing the many ways writing connects us as learners, thinkers, and creators.
Whether you write essays, research papers, stories, poems, or social media posts, this day is for you!
The celebration will feature interactive activities, performances, workshops, and a reception honoring student writers.
Schedule of Events — Thursday, October 16
10:30–11:30 a.m.
Location: Howe Atrium
Start your day with creative prompts, poetry exercises, and a chance to contribute to a collaborative writing piece hosted by Messiah’s Creative Writing Club.
All Day
Location: Library Entrance
Visit the Library to add your voice to the Writing Center’s “Why I Write Tree.” Reflect on what writing means to you and read responses from fellow members of the Messiah community.
1:00–3:00 p.m.
Location: Boyer 135
Celebrate the global diversity of writing through movement and art! Enjoy a lively Chinese Zumba session followed by hands-on Chinese calligraphy activities.
3:00–4:00 p.m.
Location: Legacy Park
Experience live, outdoor performances inspired by the works of Shakespeare. Bring a friend and enjoy how language comes alive through theatre.
3:30–5:00 p.m.
Location: Library
Unwind and express your creativity through journal-making craft. Materials provided; just bring your imagination!
5:00–6:30 p.m.
Location: Howe Atrium
Join us for refreshments and a celebration of writing across campus. Meet student writers, faculty, and staff as we honor the many ways writing shapes our community.
Why We Celebrate
Writing is at the heart of learning and communication at Messiah University. The National Day on Writing invites everyone — students, faculty, and staff — to reflect on the role writing plays in our academic, professional, and personal lives, and to celebrate the diverse voices that make our community strong.Get Involved
