Film and

Media Arts

Messiah’s major in film and media arts focuses on helping you develop as a filmmaker and industry professional by grounding you in aesthetics, theory, history, writing, and production skills. Taught by gifted scholars that also have significant industry training and experience, you’ll engage in stimulating theoretical discussions as well as hands-on projects that hone your filmmaking, editing, and production skills.

As a film and media arts major, you’ll:

  • Acquire training in digital production and editing, 16 mm film production, cinematography, basic directing, screen writing, and advanced filmmaking techniques such as sound and lighting

  • Work and learn in our growing facilities (with renovations currently underway) using leading-edge technology and equipment
  • Explore topics in new and digital media through constantly updated coursework that reflects industry advances
  • Hone your professional skills with a required internship in the state capital, Harrisburg, or in one of several programs across the country and around the globe in thriving urban film hubs, including placements at a major film studio (Sony, Warner Brothers, Universal, or Paramount) through Temple University's LA Film Studies Summer Internship Program

The Messiah College Department of Communication has received preliminary accreditation from NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) for the film and media arts major; we anticipate receiving final approval in the near future.
