High Center Soft Opening
You are invited to join us for the opening of the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013. Our campus community has been eagerly anticipating the completion of this wonderful new facility for nearly two years. To celebrate, please come at 7:40 a.m. to the patio area of the Climenhaga Building and the High Center. At that time, Richard Roberson, dean of the school of the arts, will open the front doors of the building and invite employees and students to enter. Enjoy a few minutes informally exploring the building before you start your day.
While Parmer Hall (the main auditorium) and the High Foundation Recital Hall will not be open until the end of January, we are already planning our first public events in those venues. The first recital is scheduled for Jan. 27, and the first concert in Parmer Hall is scheduled for Feb. 17. The College will host a special all-employee chapel to commemorate the opening of the High Center in Parmer Hall on Feb.27, at 3:00 p.m. The announcement of the inaugural public event season for the High Center during the 2013-2014 academic year will be announced later this spring. Thank you to everyone in the Messiah College community who has played a part in planning, fundraising, developing and readying the High Center for use by our campus and the broader region, I hope you can join us for these upcoming events.
Artist Renderings of the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts
Work will begin on the water line replacement along College Ave from the South Entrance to the existing CFA (Climenhaga Fine Arts) Parking Lot. This work will involve excavation and the removal of the sidewalk from the CFA Parking Lot down the hill to the South Entrance. Employees and students are asked to use the sidewalk that runs between CFA and the Climenhaga Homestead. We expect that the sidewalk that runs from the CFA Parking Lot to the South Entrance will be closed for the duration of the construction of the High Center. Contractors continue to erect the steel. Decking is being placed and concrete flooring is being poured. Spray fire proofing is being applied to the structural steel. Back filling continues around the building foundation. The contractor continues to work towards closing the building in before cold winter weather approaches

Over the next few weeks the contractor will continue to work on erecting the steel work. Decking will begin to be constructed in preparation for the concrete floors. The steel work will be focused on installation in the area of the new Auditorium. Backfilling of the foundations walls and masonry block walls will be coordinated between September and October. We will see contractors spraying fire proofing on the new steel beams.

The process of installing the structural steel at the High Center has begun. Contractors will be working over the next several weeks bolting and welding the structure together. As the steel goes up, the block work continues. Over the next few weeks there will be times that Creekside Drive will need to be temporarily closed so that 63' pieces of steel can be off- loaded from tractor trailer trucks. Foundation work continues as the contractor pours building footers along College Avenue and tie the new foundations into the existing Fine Arts building. Wall sections are currently under construction and concrete pillars are being poured.

Foundation work continues on the High Center project. The work to build the concrete walls along College Avenue is currently in progress. Window cut outs are easily seen now on the foundation walls along College Avenue. The elevator shaft has been drilled and the foundation for the elevator is almost complete. Structural steel work will soon begin on the High Center as the building comes up from the ground.

Work continues on the High Center foundation. Concrete casts are being placed along the foundation wall on Creekside Dr. Fondation footer work has progressed from Creekside and will begin along College Ave in the coming weeks. Shoring and soil nailing has been completed along the College Ave side of the building. This was done in preparation for other foundation and footer work. Excavation work has began at the Calvin and Janet High Center for the Performing Arts. Contractors have mobilized and the foundation work is well under way. Over the next several weeks excavation for building foundations will continue. As we get closer to the summer months plans are moving forward for additional subcontractor mobilization. Construction trailers for the various trades will be arriving soon and will be placed in the parking lot of the Fine Arts Building where other construction trailers are currently located. Phase 2b is scheduled to begin in early September. This is for the site of the mechanical room for the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. Preliminary work to remove trees and put up the construction fence has begun.
Work has been completed to bring new electrical service to the existing Fine Art Center building.
