Resume and Cover Letter Resources

Resume

A resume is a document that provides employers a quick snapshot of you as a candidate. A typical resume consists of:

  • Contact Information
  • An Objective Statement
  • Education
  • Work Experience
  • Activities
  • Volunteer
  • Relevant Coursework
  • Related Experience
  • Skills
  • Honors and Awards

Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)

Keep the format of your resume simple to be compliant with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). We suggest opening a blank Word document to begin making a resume.

  • ATS are online software that streamline the hiring process for employers.
  • Applicants can be sorted based on keywords and desired analytics.
  • A majority of online application systems use ATS.
  • If your the format of your resume proves to be unreadable through ATS, your resume will likely be moved directly to the reject pile.

Cover Letter

A cover letter introduces your resume and serves as a marketing tool. It convinces the employer to invite you for an interview through enthusiasm and determination.
  • Directly address the recruiter.
  • Tailor your skills to the particular position.
  • Relate your education and previous experience to the position.
  • Explain why you are a strong fit and the best person for the job.
