Harrisburg Libraries - An Exclusive Day in the State Capital
Wednesday, June 18, 2025
Friends will be taking a day trip to Harrisburg's Libraries on June 18, 2025! We will enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the PA State Library, the Archives, and the McCormick Riverfront Library. Vans will depart Eisenhower Circle at 8:45 a.m. with an anticipated return time of 5 p.m.
Agenda:
9:30-10:30 a.m. PA Archives
*Explore the Archives new site with Archivist Aaron McWilliams. As the official repository for historical documents dating back to the founding of the Commonwealth in 1681, this new location offers more efficient methods of preserving records well into the future.
11:00-1:15 p.m. McCormick Riverfront Library with catered lunch
*Enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the recently renovated downtown branch of the Dauphin County Library System. Hear from Director Ryan McCrory and learn more about this "library reimagined" with resources unique to the community it serves.
2:00-3:00 p.m. State Library
*After a 5-year renovation, the State Library's multi-story main reading room has been restored to its original detail with ceiling art and mahogany woodwork. Discover this space, along with the rare books collection, new STEM lab, and the Look Up, Look Out exhibit with contributions by Messiah University students during our visit.
3:30-4:30 p.m. Midtown Scholar Bookstore & Cafe
*End the day with finding a treasure to purchase and enjoying something delicious from the cafe!
