University Commitment

Messiah University is committed to creating an atmosphere of dignity and respect in which students and employees can pursue their educational and employment opportunities.

Likewise, Messiah University takes seriously its responsibilities under state and federal law to actively address complaints of misconduct such as fraud.

What is fraud?

Fraud generally involves a willful or deliberate act with the intention of obtaining an unauthorized benefit, such as money or property, by deception or other unethical means. All fraudulent acts by University community members (students and employees) are strictly prohibited and include such things as:

  • Embezzlement, misappropriation or other financial irregularities
  • Forgery or alteration of documents (checks, time sheets, contractor agreements, purchase orders, other financial documents, electronic files)
  • Improprieties in the handling or reporting of money or financial transactions
  • Authorizing or receiving payment for goods not received or services not performed
  • Authorizing or receiving payments for hours not worked

Reporting Concerns of Fraud

University community members that wish to file a complaint of fraud may do so in whichever manner best addresses the concerns of that individual.

To report an allegation of fraud in person (or to address questions about incidents of fraudulent behavior), contact one of the following University resources:

Concerns and complaints may be submitted online: www.messiah.edu/incident. This form also provides an anonymous reporting option.

To report potential scamming or electronic forms of impersonation or hacking, community members may also contact the University’s Technology Support. ITS is located on the 1st floor of Old Main and can be contacted by phone at 717-796-1800 ext. 4444.

To report potential fraud to the Attorney General’s Office for assistance from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, submit a complaint at: https://www.attorneygeneral.gov/submit-a-complaint/
