Not long ago my wife and I sat watching our second (and last) daughter graduate from college. It’s hard to believe that, when I first began working in this position at Messiah, we had no children, and now we’ve seen them both grow up, graduate from high school and college, and leave home. My experience with Messiah College students as well as with my own children has given me a perspective on both the experience of a student in college, and that of the parent of college students. I greatly value what I have learned, and I trust our students and their parents can benefit, as well.
Members of our counseling and health staff have long been caring for students and advising their parents in person and on the phone. As we have sought new ways of getting our message out to students, we realize that you are an important ally in the educational process. Students trust their parents’ advice—much more so than they sometimes admit. So if we can arm you with the resources that will help you work with your child, we all win! Please take a few moments to browse through the information available through our site to see what might be helpful for you as your child—and you—both make this transition to a new phase of life.
Best wishes to you and your family on the journey ahead!
