Instructions for Securing Clearance Forms

For students in the CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING track

For students in the SCHOOL COUNSELING track

For students in the MARRIAGE, COUPLE, & FAMILY COUNSELING track

 

SCHOOL COUNSELING

 

All applicants (PA and non-PA residents) must secure the following clearances:

Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check

  • Can complete and pay online by credit card

  • Be sure to print the page with the seal

  • May submit a copy of the results

Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance

  • Form is online to be printed out, completed, and mailed.
  • Must submit original result

  • MAIL TO:
    Childline and Abuse Registry
    Dept. of Public Welfare
    PO Box 8170
    Harrisburg, PA 17105-8170

FBI Background Check

  • Follow instructions for online registration to go to a designated site for electronic fingerprinting

  • Must be registered through the Cogent System

  • Must use the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) link and submit the form received, which includes a registration number.

 

 

PLEASE NOTE:

*Students are also required to obtain any additional clearances requested by their site. This includes situations in which the school site requires the clearance to be more recent than the time frame determined by Messiah College.

 

*All clearances must be no more than one year old when submitted to the Practicum and Internship Coordinator.

 

*If a student has not been continuously enrolled in the Graduate Program, clearances may need to be re-submitted upon re-enrollment.

 

*Clearances must be no more than four years old at any time during Practicum or Internship.

 

*Do not upload clearances to your e-portfolio.

 

*Mail all three clearances together to:

*Complete by following the instructions on the FBI website (found here: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks)

*On your application form, please request for the results to be sent to Emily Warari at the address below.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR OBTAINING A PA CHILD ABUSE HISTORY CLEARANCE

 

Complete the application form.

Money orders for child abuse clearances are available at Grantham Post Office for a $.90 fee or at convenience and grocery stores. You must pay cash for a money order. Money orders should be made payable to Department of Public Welfare. Mail the completed form and money order to:
