For the past year, senior Kristina Schwarz has taken an in-depth look at Messiah College’s history. As part of her job in the Office of Marketing and Public Relations, Schwarz researched many aspects of Messiah’s past and wrote content for the Centennial website.
One of the most interesting things she found was learning that Messiah's first president, S. R. Smith, discovered God through finding a perfect four-leaf clover. Schwarz also enjoyed learning about how Messiah's beginnings were built on the hopes and dreams of people who passionately believed in the future of the College.
Schwarz’s own favorite Messiah experience has been getting to know her fellow students and professors, noting, “The people are what make Messiah, Messiah.” She is especially thankful for the friends she has made and the emotional and spiritual support they give her, along with having the ability to get to know her professors and other members of the College staff on a more personal basis.
Reflecting on the class of 2010, Schwarz sees endless possibilities for its members. “I think that this class has something special. So many of the students that I meet have so much potential that they have yet to tap into, and I just see, like so many alumni, that the class of 2010 will make a special impact in this world when they go out to conquer it,” said Schwarz. “It will serve as a true testament to a Messiah education at work—students going forth with a strong faith and a bold vision for a better future.”
Schwarz’s own future holds many open doors after her December graduation. With a degree in communications, Schwarz is confident that she possesses skills that will be useful in any job. “The future for me is wide open,” said Schwarz. “The sky is the limit! I'm just going forward with the faith that God will place me where I am meant to be.”
