Internet Resources

The Internet provides a vast resource of mental health information. There are literally thousands of web sites to be found online, along with newsgroups, discussion lists, support groups and interactive resources.  In searching the Web for mental health information it's important to remember that just about anyone  can put up a web site. You can find many high quality sites produced by informed professionals, but you'll also find sites of dubious quality.

To get you started, we've provided links to some of the resources we think are both credible and informative. We've divided our list into some general categories:

Our General Mental Health Sites area includes links to large sites which include extensive information on a broad range of mental health topics.   We've also included links to sites which primarily provide  lists of links to even more sites!

If you'd like to look at sites which provide resources about a specifc area of interest, go to our Sites for Specific Disorders area. There you'll find links to dozens of sites dedicated to topics such as Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, Substance Abuse, Post Traumatic Stress,  and more.

Our Pharmaceutical area lists sites which provide information on psychotropic medication. These sites are particularly useful if you have questions about the use and side effects of drugs which are used to treat a variety of mental health disorders.

Finally, check out our General Medical Sites area for some excellent resources for medical information and treatment.

As you know, the Internet is always in motion. New sites are constantly being created and old sites are taken down or change location. If you get an error message when trying to access one of our listed links, try several times before you give up.  Your browser may occaisionally say that a particular site "cannot be located" because of a transient technical glitch.  If you're still unsuccessful after several attempts, the site may have moved to a new address or may no longer be in existence.
