Earn your Master of Social Work online at Messiah University
If you have a passion for helping people and would like to be an advocate for change or a leader of programs that make a difference in society, consider a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Messiah University. In fall of 2024, Messiah University will introduce an advanced generalist MSW degree that will prepare you for professional licensure and a career in the growing field of social work. The program will offer interdisciplinary focus areas in mental health, health or leadership in organizations. Coursework is 100% online.
Students in advanced standing
Messiah University BSW graduates, and those who have earned a BSW from an accredited Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) program, who meet admission requirements will be able to complete the MSW in just one year.
- 61 credits (regular standing); 30 credits (advanced standing)
- Three degree tracks: mental health, health and leadership in organizations
- Students in advanced standing can complete the MSW in one year

- 900 field placement hours (500 for advanced standing students)
- Designed to academically prepare you for professional social work licensing
- One-year full-time completion for advanced standing students; part-time completion in two years
- Two-year full-time completion for regular standing students; part-time completion plans in three or four years
The MSW program is in the process of seeking accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Students enrolled in the program will be retroactively recognized as having graduated from a CSWE-accredited program once the program attains Initial Accreditation. Achieving Initial Accreditation is typically a three-year process, and there is no guarantee that a program will attain Initial Accreditation.
