After attending Messiah College, Dr. Miller completed his B.S. in Music Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He taught instrumental music in the Susquehanna School District before studying musicology at Indiana University in Indiana where he worked under Willi Apel and Hans Tischler and earned a Ph.D. He joined Messiah College Faculty in 1968 where he has taught music history, conducted choral ensembles, and served as department chairman. In 2003 he was named Professor Emeritus but continues to teach part-time in hymnology. Dr. Miller has written articles for The Hymn Journal of the American Choral Directors Association and Brethern in Christ History and Life.
