A conversation on the lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education regarding LGBTQ+ discrimination in religious colleges/universities and learning about what the Equality Act is and how it could impact the future of religious academic institutions.

The Democrats Club will lead a discussion about the recent federal lawsuit filled against the U.S. Department of Education regarding LGTBQ+ discrimination at religious colleges and universities. Thirty-three plaintiffs of current and former college students came together with the Religious Exemption Accountability Project (REAP) to put to an end the abuse and unsafe conditions that many LGBTQ+ students face around the country at religious colleges and universities. We will hear from one of the plaintiffs, Rachel Held (she/they), a senior Peace and Conflicts Studies major here at Messiah, share their story and how we can love our LGBTQ+ siblings in Christ and seek justice and inclusion.
