What you thought you could see yourself doing does not seem as exciting anymore. You have a goal but are not sure how to achieve it. Are either of those statements true for you? The Messiah College Career and Professional Development Center is designed to help you, even if you have a good sense of what career path you would like to take. From one-on-one coaching to internship opportunities, here are six ways the Career Center can help you be successful, as well as some tips and tricks to give you the resources you need to flourish professionally!

1. Reach out.

Even if you have a set goal in mind and a plan to get there, the Career Center highly suggests meeting with someone in the office at least once a year. There is information and resources available that you may be missing when you do not take advantage of this opportunity.

2. Recognize that you are unique.

Everyone has a different plan in mind—and different goals, too. Therefore, the steps to get there will vary from person to person. The Career Center is there to help you understand what those steps are and to customize a plan that fits you.

3. Participate!

The Career Center hosts many events each year, designed to help you explore your options and prepare for your future. Events like Rezumania, career fairs and career immersion trips throughout the year are just some of the many events that are available to Messiah students. These events will help you gain experience and meet new people that could even help you land an internship or job.

4. Get that resume ready.

Make sure you spend time building a resume that will make the employer want to take a second look at what you have to offer. The Career Center is available to review your resume and help you identify what you may want to add or take off, advise you on formatting, and ensure that it represents you.

5. Participate in individual coaching.

The one-on-one coaching sessions focus on creating a plan for action, depending on your greatest needs, so you can move forward toward your goal.

6. Prep for success after graduation!

Skills directly associated with your future job are highly important—that much is obvious. But what may be less obvious are the “soft skills.” Examples include creative thinking, interpersonal communication, teamwork and openness to feedback. Through your interactions with the Career Center staff, they’ll help you identify these soft skills, so that you can point them out in interviews after graduation.
