When you want to check out an item that is currently checked out to someone else, you may place a HOLD on the item. When you encounter an item in the library catalog that is checked out, you can place a hold by clicking the "Place a hold" link over on the right side of the screen.
IMPORTANT: If the item you want is not checked out, you may not place a hold on it.
