Stained glass

Introduction of what the stained glass means

The stained glass that you see associated with Messiah College in print, online and on our campus symbolizes the word picture we use to describe why "see anew" is an appropriate metaphor for our unique Christian educational community.

The Messiah Metaphor

Each student brings a rich perspective--his or her own color--and, at Messiah, those colors are celebrated, appreciated and allowed to remain distinct. In the grace of our shared love of Christ and in our worship, study and service, we meld our separate colors together into a strong and vibrant stained glass window. And the insight that is born in everyone is the light that shines through.

Accepted uses of stained glass

The Messiah College stained glass is comprised of custom-created art files that are not to be re-created. If you are interested in using stained glass in your program’s communications as seen below, please contact the Office of Marketing and Communications at ext. 2294, 717-691-6027 or design@messiah.edu.

1. Within a Priori Sans bold headline or Priori Sans bold tagline. This is used in the viewbook and student recruitment ads.

2. As a vertical sliver aligned with headline type or small ITC Mendoza Roman type on a ligature spread. These slivers always either bleed off the edge of a page or abut the crease of a fold. They never “float” within a page. They are always narrow, but there is no set width they must be. Within pieces, the widths of the slivers must be identical. The typical width is .125 inches in the live area.

3. In a drop capital, coordinated with the spread’s color.

4. Horizontally, as a thin accent sliver accenting text.

Note: The horizontal use of the stained glass is a very limited application that must be approved by the Creative Director in the Office of Marketing and Communications.
